Coloured Emotion
Recolour.
For my photography project, I wanted to do something with colour and light, with the aim of reflecting emotional toil. Which sprang some work I had done previously to mind.
Particularly, these images sprang to mind, the use of Photoshop to recolour forests, and the use of soft, shallow light on a subject. My initial idea was to use subjects that had suffered emotional issues, be that anger, pain, loss, upset, and have them reflect on that, then ask them what colour they would associate that time with (if any), and colour the image accordingly.
Though, Leah Gordon suggested using Infrared Film in order to produce a similar effect, without the process of photo shopping, similar to the work done by Richard Mosse (shown below).
While I love this aesthetic, and prefer the notion of it being a more physical process, that have more out of control variables, which could lead to more interesting results, it's the lack of control over the colour that makes this tough to do, and still get the message I want across.
The project's idea comes less from synesthesia, and more the prospect that colour can effect the emotion someone reads from looking at a photograph, I don't want to spell it out to the viewer, but simply hint at them.
I plan on adding shot quotes to the shot, from the story the subject shares, and adding the least emotionally suggestive line to the image, in an attempt to let the colour fill in the emotion.
